TulipStar standard and XL version: automated sorting and bunching of tulips

The TulipStar concept has more than proven itself as a machine by means of which the production of tulips is neatly sorted and bunched every day. Further development of the TulipStar XL makes it possible to process heavier flowers. The TulipStar XL has wider insert panels than the TulipStar. Sorting and bunching of tulips takes place by means of advanced X-ray technology. At full capacity, the machine processes 14,000 tulips per hour. The speed is adapted to the required labour, making it highly profitable for tulip growing companies producing more than 4 million tulips. The TulipStar XL provides the lowest cost price per tulip and the least damage to leaf and stem.

The popularity of the TulipStar is growing in great leaps. Prominent tulip companies have acquired one or more units, such as Germaco, Wesselman Flowers, M.T. Burger Bloembollen, Maliepaard Bloembollen bv, Boot Flora and Breg Tulpen. Interesting to know: for Germaco this is TulipStar number nine and for Wesselman Flowers numbers five and six. The TulipStar for automated sorting and bunching of tulips is also very popular outside the Netherlands.

The strength of the machine

The strength of the machine is that high quality technologies are being used. This, in combination with its simplicity, allows the machine to do its work for 16 hours per day without any failures or interruptions. The simplicity of the TulipStar also leads to a competitive price. Maintenance costs are low and predictable. The required X-ray technology for recognising the tulip heads between the leaves requires a few complex parts. The probability that these parts fail, however, is very low, because of the X-ray camera that we developed ourselves.

The tulip takes centre stage

The bunch is assembled directly on the bunching belt. Then, the leaves are stretched continuously by means of an air stream while the stems are brought together in the bunch. In addition to its role as a bunching machine, the TulipStar has also proven itself as a sorting machine. The tulips are sorted on the basis of length and/or weight. It is also possible to remove the tulips that are too ripe. The TulipStar can be made with up to 3 sorting actions, of which 2 are bunched automatically.

Ripeness sorting 

Ripeness sorting is incorporated, making it possible to sort on the basis of the ripeness of the tulips with the aid of an RGB camera.
